Rudgwick Netball Club History
Rudgwick Netball Club was formed in the summer of 2005 with a coach (from Horsham District Council) and 9 keen local players. Play started during this time at Rudgwick Primary School, outside on the school playground on Monday evenings.
The Club gained more players week on week and we were then generously offered the use of the Pennthorpe School Hall facilities as well as their 2 outside courts, where we continue to train.
On the departure of our Coach we continued to train and play unaided. We then had two pieces of good fortune: we amalgamated with Loxwood Netball Club, which brought us a new influx of players and a new Coach joined us and has taken the club to another level.
Rudgwick currently boasts over 20 adult members and fields teams in both the Crawley League and the inter village tournaments.
In 2009 we decided to extend the club by adding a junior section. We had no idea how successful this new step would be. We started very small in September (with about 7 girls turning up regularly to training at a local leisure centre). However, in January Pennthorpe School once again stepped in to help us out. We were able to move junior training to their indoor hall, and since then our numbers have grown exponentially. We now welcome juniors from Year 4 to Year 11 at dedicated junior training sessions. We have 100 registered junior players and teams for every age group.
We have also formed strong links with local schools. We have run workshops at Kingslea, Loxwood, Warnham, The Weald, Millais and Farlington to name but a few.
The club continues to grow, while maintaining its core ideals. We believe in providing fun and fitness to players of all ages and abilities and everyone is welcome at our training sessions. However, we also hope to improve as individuals and as a club and we put out performance and friendly teams for all those who wish to play competitively.
